PROJECT

CONCEPT

The core purpose of CATCO2NVERS is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from the biobased industry by developing five innovative and integrated technologies based on three catalytic processes (electrochemical, enzymatic, and thermochemical).

The project aim is to transform waste-CO2 from two biobased industries into five added-value chemicals: glyoxylic acid, lactic acid, furan dicarboxylic methyl ester, cyclic carbonated fatty acid methyl esters, and bio-methanol, with application in the chemical, cosmetics, and plastic industries.

OBJECTIVES

iconocat

OBJECTIVE # 1

Developing and applying catalyst-based technologies for CO2 conversion to added-value chemical.

iconocat2

OBJECTIVE # 2

Validating technologies at TRL5 with industrial synthetic off-gases and providing sustainability and proofing socioeconomic and industrial feasibility.

IMPACTS

Development of breakthrough technologies for the conversion of CO2 into high added-value chemicals. Definition of processes targets including energy requirements, production costs, and yields.
Design of an integrated process with zero or negative greenhouse gas emissions.
New business models and value chains in the CO2 utilisation sector.
Diversification of the economic base of bio-based industries by 2030.

METHODOLOGY

CATCO2NVERS project will cover 48 months of work and will be structured in 8 related Work Packages gathering all the consortium management, research and innovation activities; as well as all issues related to economic assessment, environmental sustainability and social aspects. Moreover, CATCO2NVERS will assure a sustainable impact of the project emphasizing the dissemination and exploitation activities.
