Conducting the exploitation strategy during the project is a relevant enabler to embrace the use of the results after the project implementation

Pablo Ariño Aguilar, Business Development Manager at Sustainable Innovations explains in this interview the importance of having dedicated exploitation tasks in the CATCO2NVERS project.

What does the project exploitation consist of and why is it so important for the CATCO2NVERS project?

The CATCO2NVERS project’s exploitation activities are aligned with the H2020 EC-funded project’s objective of maximising the impact of results. This involves developing strategies for a seamless transition to market uptake after successful validation of technical innovations.

As a Research and Innovation Action, conducting the exploitation strategy during the project is a relevant enabler to embrace the use of the results after the project implementation to deliver the expected value to the society and the industry, not only in terms of economic or commercial purposes but also to promote further research actions that lead to further technical innovation advancements.

What are the main challenges and opportunities of this task?

The exploitation strategy outlines different activities based on an iterative methodology, therefore the partner´s contribution and commitment to assist the definition of key aspects such as main value proposition, tailored business models to their innovations, adequate IP strategies to be further developed and right funding sources are a “must-have” to success in this task. Thankfully, since the project began, a smooth collaboration between the whole consortium has been deployed and it has led to valuable outcomes with regards to these activities.

On the other hand, there are still challenges to be tackled, as part of the Research and Innovation Action´s nature the current low TRL of the promising solutions that are successfully being developed might make it challenging to specifically define the best market uptake strategy to safeguard the successful adoption within the end-user application industries. Furthermore, it is an iterative journey, and the technology transfer from the lab to the industry partners might shape the final strategy to be adopted.
